Today in class we started off with a lecture about different approaches of creating a visual rhetoric. we went over a few techniques that are used in design to create a image which is persuasive of the desired outcome. these are the following techniques we talked about.
- juxtaposition
- subversion
- homage
- parody
- satire
- pastiche
- dynamism
these stratagies are super helpful as it is giving me an in site to a more creative way of making my posters interesting and engaging.
in class we stareded off brainstorming as a group what are the main sources of inequality in NZ. in smaller groups we broke down these big sub topics of inequalities to more narrow issues. this is helpful as it allowed for a breakdown of many inequalitys in NZ allowing me to look over them all and chosse the one i want to focus on.
from looking at these brainstorms and because of my previous knowledge i am thinking of looking into doing my posters on racial inequality and looking at the sub catogories of – casual rasicm, or the loss of Maori tradition to a European nation.
for the next activity we where given a word and had to do 9 thumbnail sketches within 10 mins that to inspiration from the word to deliver a thumbnail of an inequality. i found this quite hard as i am not very good at coming up with ideas on the spot if it dosent have a clear link this is something i want to try more of as i think it will benifit me in the creative process by helping think of more interesting and diffrent ideas rather than the first thing my brain thinks about.
here is an image of my poster i created for this weeks homework. i think it has a good message but it is unclear of what issue it is talking about. for example it could be talking about bulling or rudness and is not specifically about causal racism which is something i need to work on.
